About this event

Academic Laboratory Management & Leadership Symposium

The course is organized by postdoc career development administrators from The Torrey Pines Training Consortium (TPTC), which members include Salk Institute for Biological Studies, Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute (SBP), Scripps Research and UC San Diego.

The course is based on the acclaimed Burroughs Wellcome Fund/Howard Hughes Medical Institute course in scientific management and similar intensive programs developed across the country. The course is designed to equip postdocs and junior faculty in the biomedical, physical and life sciences from the Torrey Pines Mesa institutes with the professional competencies to lead innovative and productive research programs. However, graduate students and research staff may also find this training informative and may attend.

Navigating Tenure

Registration Fee for TPTC members*:

Early Registration (by Jan 31) = $50

Regular Registration (Feb 1 or later) = $75

*TPTC members include postdocs, graduate students faculty, and staff from Salk, SBP, Scripps Research and UC San Diego.

  • For UC San Diego participants, payment may also be made via recharge. Email Heather Dillon for more information.
  • Institutional email is required for registration. Registrations that do not provide a valid Salk, SBP, Scripps Research, or UC San Diego institutional email will be cancelled and refunded (minus the processing fee).

Registrations will be accepted through the start of the final session on Thursday, March 4 at 12 noon PT. Session access cannot be guaranteed for registrations submitted less than 24 hours in advance of an individual session start time. Please submit registrations at least 24 hours in advance to avoid any potential access issues.

No discounts will be given for registrations submitted after the start of the program or for individuals who are not able to attend any of the live sessions. Slides and handout will be sent to all registrants at the conclusion of the entire event from the presenters who consent to making their materials available. Sessions will not be recorded.

 

Refund

Refund of the registration cost (minus the processing fee) is permitted until close of business on February 16, 2021.  No refunds will be issued after that date.

Venue Location

All session will be held online via Zoom. Zoom login information will be published to the online event page 24 hours before the start of each session. Approved registrants will be able to access the zoom registration information by using the link provided in their registration confirmation email or by logging into their eventbrite account.

Course Material

Slides and handout will be sent to all registrants at the conclusion of the entire event from the presenters who consent to making their materials available. Sessions will not be recorded. No discounts or refunds will be given to those who miss or are not able to attend any of the live sessions.
